Little is known of Jamey's history. He doesn't like to dwell upon, or open up about the past. When asked directly about specific facts (birth date, circumcision, marital status, species, etc.) he'll generally answer "All will be revealed as it is necessary..." or some such New Agey crap. As far as we can determine he was born in Chicago and moved to Kansas City at an early age. The psychologists have attributed his fascination with sound and electronics to early, painful, electrical experiments performed on him by one of his older brothers (the other Tom). After various terms of forced institutionalization, he found himself at a remote ashram in the Himalayan valleys of Nepal. At last, he had found peace. Unfortunately, several years of meditative bliss were suddenly shattered by an emotional encounter with a female mountain goat. The monks saw it necessary to send him packing, and with just a few rupees and the clothes on his back he made his way back to the USA. Determined to "make it on the outside", he immersed himself in music. This proved to be his salvation as he was able to finally forget the "beasts of his past" (both figuratively and literally!). He tried many instruments before settling on the keyboards because, in his words, "they make a lotta different noises". Though still prone to occasional involuntary twitches from the electro-shock therapy he received in his youth, Jamey seems to be, for all practical purposes, relatively normal. It is the view of many mental health professionals familiar with his case, that his close contact with the others in the band is the stabilizing force that keeps him in society.
